Under-Trial Prisoner At Koraput Circle Jail Dies After 'Falling Off Tree'

Koraput: An under-trial prisoner (UTP) lodged in Koraput circle jail died after reportedly falling off a tree inside the jail premises on Tuesday.

The UTP, identified as Keshav Mushka was a resident of Laxmipur who climbed atop a jackfruit tree inside the jail campus and fell from it, informed the jail Superintended.

Keshav was rushed to the Koraput medical after the mishap where the doctors pronunced him as dead.

Paralakhemundi ACF Death: Odisha Crime Branch To Assist Police In Probe

A four-member team of the Odisha Crime Branch on Tuesday reached Paralakhemundi where it will assist the police in the investigation into the mysterious death case of Paralakhemundi ACF Soumya Ranjan Mohapatra.

Crime Branch ADG Sanjeev Panda informed OTV that the CB has not taken over the probe into the case rather it will only help the police in the investigation. The CB team is led by a DSP rank officer and also has an inspector.

The father of the deceased official had knocked on the doors of the Police DG Abhay yesterday seeking lie-detection test of the Paralakhemundi DFO, Soumya's wife and cook who are suspected to be behind the murder of the young forest officer.

Spurious Liquor Manufacturing Unit Busted In Balasore, 4 Held

A special team of Odisha Excise Department personnel busted a duplicate liquor manufacturing unit in Balasore on Tuesday. As many as four persons were arrested by the team from the duplicate liquor manufacturing unit which was reportedly producing spurious spirits.

Acting on a tip-off, the team raided the unit and seized huge quantity of spurious liquor with logos of reputed foreign brands, machineries and labels of reputed liquor brands, seal and packing machines and other incriminating items. Sources said that the fakes would be packed in the branded (labelled) bottles and pushed in the local market as originals.

Odisha Adds 2,085 Covid-19 Cases, 56 Deaths In 24 Hours

As many as 2,085 were tested positive for Covid-19 while 56 patients died while undergoing treatment for the disease in the last 24 hours in Odisha, informed the State Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Department on Tuesday.

With this, the positive tally in the State rose to 9,58,059 and death toll touched 5,172. Similarly, active cases remained at 20,168 while recoveries stood at 9,32,666, added the H&FW Department.

The State has so far tested over 1,51,35,862 samples for Covid-19, including 69,812 in the last 24 hours. The test positivity rate (TPR) stood at 2.36%.

A total of 1,40,54,214 jabs of vaccines have been administered to people across the State including 1,09,12,062 first dose. Similarly, 31,42,152 people have been inoculated with both doses of the vaccines.
