Pune: A `missed call` on the mobile phone led to the nuptials for a couple, but put the police here in a piquant situation as they found that the bride was a `missing girl` from Nagpur.

Little did Rekha (names changed) realise, when she wrongly called a number that it would set off a chain of events that would unite her with Umesh, a youth from Pune, who, after seeing a missed call on his cell, had rung back.

The talking then resulted in multiplied calls, as Rekha and Umesh developed a close relationship that brought the former to the city to meet her `Mr Right` in person on December 24, 2011.

Even as they met and got married at the nearby pilgrim town of Alandi, Rekha`s parents, who searched for her frantically, lodged a complaint with Nagpur police for their missing daughter.

City police, in coordination with their Nagpur counterparts traced the couple to Umesh`s residence in suburban Hadapsar here. The girl`s parents were informed about their whereabouts, Bhanupratap Barge, police officer of the Social Security Cell here, said.

The newly married couple was summoned to the police station, where the girl`s parents, accompanied by Nagpur police officials met them.

"Though, there was a parental opposition to the inter-caste marriage, they hardly had any choice, but to accept the validity of the alliance, as both Rekha and Umesh are major," Barge told PTI today.

After a `negotiated settlement` of the delicate matter, the Social Security Cell officials, who managed to assuage the feelings of the parents, said the couple would now be leaving for Nagpur on January 22.
