Jamnagar(Guj): A 35-year-old woman set herself afire with her six-month-old son after her husband denied her permission to go to her parents' home, police said today.

Both the woman and her son died after receiving severe burns.

The woman, identified as Kiran Ahir, a resident of Nagajar village of Kalavad taluka, told her husband yesterday that she wished to go to meet her parents, Kalavad Police Inspector D N Patel told PTI.

However, her husband told her that she had returned from her home only 25 days back and that he would drop her at her parent's home after the cotton harvesting season, Patel said.

Unable to get over her husband's denial, she set herself and her six-month-old son, Mit Ahir, on fire yesterday, the police official added.

Police questioned the woman's husband before letting him off and informed the family members of the woman who told the police that the duo shared a cordial relationship.

A case of accidental death has been registered, Patel said.
