Nayagarh: A man allegedly set afire the room of his elder brother following which his sister-in-law and her minor son were charred to death late on Monday night at Bada Pandusar village here.

As per reports, the accused identified as Bharat Santa enraged over property dispute kept a LPG cylinder with its regulator open in the room in which his brother Sarat Santa, sister-in-law Sushama Santa and eight-month-old nephew Munu were asleep.

As the room was bolted from outside, the occupants could not move out of the room. However, Sarat could manage to break open the room with a woodcutter. By the time, he went to rescue his family members, they were already charred to death. Sarat sustained severe burn injuries while saving them. He was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

The fire engulfed six rooms as the fire spread vigorously. As Sarat’s three-year-old daughter Suni was sleeping at some other place, she escaped the disaster.

After committing the crime, Bharat fled the spot. However, he was apprehended at Baramunda bus station in Bhubaneswar.

After interrogation, Bharat admitted to have committed the crime. As per Bharat, his elder brother Sarat had disposed off a land three years ago and did not part with the share with him. Peeved over this, he decided to take revenge and executed the crime.
