Temperatures cross 40 degrees in Odisha for first time in 2024

Temperatures cross 40 degrees in Odisha for first time in 2024

For the first time this year, four cities of Odisha on Saturday recorded maximum day temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius.

Malkangiri became the hottest place in the State with 41 degrees Celsius. The other cities that recorded temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius were Boudh (40.5), Titlagarh (40.5) and Bolangir (40.2). 

Nayagarh recorded 40 degrees Celsius.

As per the Bhubaneswar regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD),  maximum day temperature is likely to be between 38 degrees Celsius to 40 degrees Celsius at many places over the districts of interior parts and between 36 degrees Celsius to 38 degrees Celsius over the coastal districts during next four to five days.

The relative humidity will remain in the range of 50 % to 70% over coastal Odisha and 30% to 50% over interior districts of Odisha, the IMD said. 

Keeping the IMD’s predictions in view, the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) asked all district Collectors to take precautionary measures.

Meanwhile, the School and Mass Education department directed all educational institutions including government, government-aided and privately-managed schools to have morning classes from 7 am to 11.30 am.
