Summer of 1969 heat wave-record broken by Bhubaneswar in April 2024

Bhubaneswar experienced a historic heat wave, recording temperatures of 40°C or above for 17 consecutive days in April, surpassing the previous record from 1969.

For the first time since 1969, mercury in Bhubaneswar remained at 40 degrees Celsius or above for the longest streak in the month of April breaking a decades-old record.

As per IMD Bhubaneswar weather scientist, Umashankar Das’ post on his X handle, for the first time since 1969, Bhubaneswar recorded temperature at 40 degrees Celsius or above continuously for 17 days in the month of April.
