The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday predicted that the southwest monsoon is likely to advance into South Andaman Sea and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal around May 15, 2022.
Under its impact, fairly widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall is very likely to occur over Andaman & Nicobar Islands during next five days.
Similarly, isolated heavy rainfall is very likely to occur over the region from May 14 to 16.
“Squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph also likely over south Andaman Sea on 15th & 16th May,” the IMD said in a press release.
Meanwhile, the remnant of cyclonic storm ‘Asani’ (pronounced as Asani) over Westcentral Bay of Bengal has weakened into a Depression at 0530 hrs IST of 12th May and into a Well Marked Low Pressure Area over coastal Andhra Pradesh at 0830 hrs IST of today, the 12th May. It is likely to weaken further into a Low Pressure Area during next 12 hours.
Under its influence, light to moderate rainfall is likely to occur at many places with heavy rainfall at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh and heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Rayalaseema.
Similarly, squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph will prevail over Andhra Pradesh Odisha-West Bengal coasts and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal during next 24 hours.
