Severe heatwave to continue in Odisha for next 48 hours; Nor'wester rain to lash state from May 5

The India Meteorological Department predicted a significant temperature drop in Odisha after severe heatwave conditions. IMD Bhubaneswar's Director announced a red warning for intense heat, expecting temperatures up to 45 degrees. Relief is anticipated with Nor'wester rains starting May 5.

In what could provide much-need relief to people, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday predicted considerable drop in the day or maximum temperature in Odisha. Apart from this, the severe heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in different parts of Odisha for the next two days.

IMD Bhubaneswar Director Manorama Mohanty today informed that 'red warning' for severe heatwave conditions have been issued for several districts, including twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar today.

"The severe heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in Odisha for today and tomorrow. After May 2, there is possibility of drop in maximum temperature by 2 to 3 degrees," said Mohanty.

According to Mohanty, the maximum temperature is likely to remain within 44 to 45 degrees in the districts where red alert has been issued.

"After May 7, there is possibility of drop in the maximum temperature by 3 to 4 degrees across Odisha. The severe heatwave warning will be valid for next two days. However, some pockets will experience isolated heatwave conditions. People need to take adequate preacuations for the next five days and should avoid going out during peak hours from 11 am to 3 pm," said Mohanty.

The IMD official further informed that Nor'wester rain is likely to get activated from May 5 onwards.
