In a major relief, Odisha on Wednesday witnessed a temporary pause from the chilling cold as the temperature saw a rise by 1-2 degrees Celsius. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, an increase in both day and night-time temperature is expected across most districts in the state.

Predictions indicate that temperature could see a rise of 2 to 4 degrees Celsius. While the daytime temperature in parts of Odisha has increased slightly, the night temperatures will rise from today, reports said.

The weather department has attributed the temporary respite from the winter chill to the influx of moisture-laden air caused by the activity of a western disturbance. The inducted cyclonic circulation over West Rajasthan in lower tropospheric levels and Western disturbance have brought warm and humid air into the state, thereby reducing the intensity of the cold, reports said.

The warmer weather is going to be accompanied by dense fog until January 24. A yellow alert for dense fog has been issued for four districts until January 23, potentially reducing visibility to below 50 metres. Likewise, similar yellow alerts were issued to residents in Cuttack, Kendrapara, and Jagatsinghpur districts on January 24.

The Meteorological Department has advised residents to exercise utmost caution, particularly when travelling.
