Bringing huge respite for the farming community in Odisha which has been staring at drought-like situation even as the large chunk of monsoon season has already passed on, rainfall activities under the impact of a developing low pressure on Bay of Bengal have already begun in several parts of the State.
A cyclonic circulation over northeast & adjoining east central Bay of Bengal now lies over north & adjoining east central Bay of Bengal and extends up to 4.5 km above mean sea level. Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over north and adjoining central Bay of Bengal today, the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has said.

Under its influence, heavy rainfall, thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over several districts of the State till September 8, 2021, said the Met department.
In the wake of the forecast, yellow warning for heavy rainfall has been alerted for one or two places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Koraput and Puri in the next 24 hours.
Similarly, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Rayagada, Khordha, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj and Nabarangpur.
The Met Centre has also issued yellow warning with prediction of heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Nuapada, Bolangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj on September 7.
On the other hand, due to the influence of the system over north and adjoining central Bay of Bengal, squally weather with surface wind speed reaching 40-50kmph is very likely over west-central adjoining North Bay of Bengal off south Odisha coast during September 6 and 7.
Therefore, fishermen have been advised not to venture into parts of west-central and adjoining North Bay of Bengal off south Odisha coast during these two days.
