The Odisha government is fully prepared to deal with any situation arising out of the probable cyclone even though a clear picture is yet to emerge as of today, said Chief Secretary Suresh Mohapatra.
According to Mohapatra, it is still unclear about the projected path of the probable cyclone and in which state it will make landfall. “The Collectors in the State have been put on alert and we hope to get a clear picture in the next two to three days,” Mohapatra added.
Earlier in the day, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said it was closely monitoring the developments as a cyclonic circulation has formed over south Andaman sea on Wednesday.
IMD Director General, Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, said the system will develop into a low pressure area around May 6. There is possibility that it will move in north-west direction for the next two days and may intensify into depression. Subsequently, from south Andaman sea region it will move towards Bay of Bengal region.
“As of today, we have not made any forecast regarding landfall and which areas will be affected. Only after a low pressure forms, it may intensify into a depression,” said Mohapatra.
Mohapatra informed that the environmental conditions are favourable for intensification of the system into a cyclone. Usually the probability of cyclone is high in the month of May.
