Bhubaneswar: The Meteorological Centre of the IMD here today has issued Orange Warning with forecast for moderate to severe thunderstorms in the Twin Cities. This apart, the forecast has also issued storm and rainfall alert for some other districts of the State.
Moderate to severe thunderstorms with lightning, gusty surface wind speed 30 to 40 kmph, and intense rain likely to continue for another one hour over Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, the Met Centre informed through a tweet.
It also cautioned people to stay indoors during the inclement weather. This apart there are also chances of waterlogging in some low lying areas, the weather forecast said.
Some other districts like Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Jajpur are also likely to witness thunderstorms, lightning and rainfall today.
As per the data available with the Met department, Betnoti area in Mayurbhanj has received the highest amount of rainfall at 71 mm in the last 24 hours.
Similarly, Baripada has recorded 64.6 mm of rainfall, Anandpur 59.6 mm, Telkoi 46.2 mm, Nawana (Mayurbhanj) 44.4 mm, Rajghat 44.2 mm, Harichandanpur (Keonjhar) 38.2 mm, Tensa (Sundargarh) 37.4 mm of rainfall.
In terms of district-wise average rainfall, Keonjhar has received 30.9 mm of rainfall, the highest among all districts in the State followed by Mayurbhanj with 27.8 mm and Jajpur 23 mm of rain in the last 24 hours.
