As many as 17 districts of the state have received deficit rainfall so far, according to the regional centre of the India Meteorological Department here in Bhubaneswar.
During this Monsoon season from June 1 to July 7, the state received around 206mm rainfall. Compared to the normal rainfall during the previous corresponding period, the deficit is 25 percent.
“Odisha recorded 206mm rainfall during the period from June 1 to July 7, a deficit of 25 percent from the normal rainfall. It means, because of the rainfall-induced by the cyclonic circulation, 6 percent of the deficit rainfall has been compensated,” informed weather scientist Umashankar Das.
“So far, 10 districts have recorded normal rainfall. These districts are Angul, Bargarh, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nuapada, Sambalpur and Sundargarh,” added Das.
Deogarh and Jharsuguda districts recorded 53 and 21 percent more rainfall than normal respectively, informed the IMD, adding that the quantum of rainfall will increase from July 13.
The monsoon usually reaches Odisha between June 10 and 12. This year, it arrived on June 22.
