Despite the onset of monsoon, Odisha has witnessed 37 per cent less rainfall than the normal rainfall range between June 1 and 24, the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Regional Centre in Bhubaneswar said.
As per HR Biswas, Director of Regional Met Centre, the State received 97.8 mm of rainfall between June 1 and 24 against the normal rainfall of 156.1 mm. During this period, Boudh district recorded 206.4 mm of rainfall, an excess of 40 per cent.
Several districts- Angul, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh and Nuapada experienced normal rainfall so far. Similarly, Odisha recorded 76.7 mm of rainfall between June 16 and June 24 against the normal range of 76.8 mm.
As per the IMD, a cyclonic circulation over southeast Uttar Pradesh and neighbourhood persists and another cyclonic circulation lies over Jharkhand and neighbourhood. There is a possibility of an increase in rainfall activities in several parts of the State from June 24 till June 29, 2022.
Yellow warning for thunderstorm and heavy rainfall has also been issued for several districts till the period. As per the weather forecast issued on Friday, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Bolangir, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Jajpur in 24 hours. The warning will remain valid till June 26 (08:30 am).
