Bhubaneswar: While reviewing the preparedness for the impending Cyclone Yaas, the Director General (DG) of Odisha Police, Abhay on Sunday said that the police force in the coastal districts have been put on high alert to deal with any eventuality that might arise due to the possible Cyclone Yaas.
As per a press release issued by the department, the DGP reviewed preparedness for cyclone Yaas through video conferencing with the SP of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jagatsingpur, Puri, Kendrapada, Ganjam, Berhampur, Range DIGs, ADG Communication and ADG Marine.
The ADG law and Order assisted the DGP in review.
“Preparedness for both evacuation and pre-cyclone actions, as well as post cyclone relief and rescue were reviewed in detail,” the press note read.
In addition to that, 60 formations of Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) have been mobilised. “They are equipped with high-end equipment to effectively carry out rescue and recovery work. Odisha Police is fully geared up to face all challenges,” it added.
It is worthwhile to mention that the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has started positioning rescue teams in Odisha ahead of impending cyclone Yaas, which is expected to make landfall somewhere between Paradip and Sagar Islands on May 26, as per the present prediction made by the India Meteorological Department.
While speaking with OTV, NDRF DG SN Pradhan said, “NDRF is ready to handle any kind of situation arising out of the cyclone. Till now, as many as 22 teams of the disaster management wing have been dispatched to Odisha. As per the request of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) of the State government, 10 more NDRF teams will be airlifted to the State tonight. Total 32 teams have been kept ready for the State.”
