Two separate low-pressure systems might bring more spells of rains for Odisha in the next two weeks, predicted the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre of the IMD in Bhubaneswar, the state might witness twin low pressures in two weeks.
The first low pressure might develop in West-Central Bay of Bengal and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal by September 8 while the second low-pressure system night form between September 9 and 15.
Meanwhile, after few days of unbearable heat and humid weather, rainfall activities might increase in Odisha from September 5, informed Met Centre weather scientist Umashankar Dash.
The weather office said that the present monsoon trough will continue to lie north of normal position till September 5. It will shift southward thereafter with possible formation of a cyclonic circulation/low pressure area over westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal.
Under its impact, weak monsoon condition will prevail over Odisha and the most of the remaining parts of India except northeast India. Thereafter the rainfall activity will increase over central and north peninsular India.
The seasonal cumulative rainfall realized in Odisha between June 1 and September 2 is 992 mm against its normal value of 931.9 mm. During the period, 6 districts received excess rainfall and the rest 24 in normal category.
