The grueling heatwave conditions that have thrown the life of people out of gear in Odisha will continue in some districts of the State with the regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing ‘Yellow Warning’ for some western districts for today.
The Western Odisha districts likely to experience intense heatwave condition today are Sonepur, Bargarh, Bolangir, Nuapada, Boudh, Jharsuguda and Kalahandi.
According to IMD, this year for the first time, Bolangir and Titlagarh are the two cities that crossed 45 degrees Celsius mark on Thursday with the temperatures climbing to 45.3 and 45.2 degrees respectively.
With Odisha continuing to reel under intense heatwave conditions, as many as five places recorded maximum temperature of 43 degrees Celsius or above on Thursday. They included Bolangir (45.3), Titlagarh (45.2), Boudh (44.0), Bhawanipatna (43.5) and Malkangiri (43.0).
Similarly, as many as 15 cities recorded maximum temperatures 40 degrees Celsius or above and they were Bolangir (45.3), Titlagarh (45.2), Boudh (44.0), Bhawanipatna (43.5), Malkangiri (43.0), Jharsuguda (42.7), Bargarh (42.6), Nuapada (42.4), Sambalpur and Sundargarh (42.0 each), Sonepur (41.5), Hirakud (41.3), Deogarh (41.2), Baripada and Nabarangpur (40.0 each).
The IMD has predicted that there will be no relief from the prevailing heatwave conditions in the next two days for the residents of Western Odisha.
