India Meteorological Department (IMD) DG Mrutyunjay Mohapatra on Wednesday reiterated that there will be no impact of the impending cyclone which is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal.
According to Mohapatra, the depression over southeast Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards and has intensified into a Deep Depression.
As per IMD, the system is very likely to move northwestwards for some time and then north-northwestwards and intensify gradually into a cyclonic storm over the same region around today evening. The cyclonic storm will be named, ‘Cyclone Mocha’.
The cyclonic storm will gradually intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm by May 11 morning and a very severe cyclonic storm by midnight over southeast and adjoining central Bay of Bengal.
According to IMD DG, the cyclonic storm will change its track after May 12 and head towards Bangladesh-Myanmar coast with a sustained wind speed of 110-120 kmph, gusting to 130 kmph.
“As of now there is no impact of the cyclone over Odisha, Andhra Pradesh coast. IMD has not issued any kind of warning for Odisha regarding wind or rainfall,” said Mohapatra.
Mohapatra further informed that the West Bengal coast may experience a sustained wind speed of 40 to 50 kmph.
