The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday clarified that no official warning has been issued regarding any cyclone formation as of now. Amid rising public curiosity and a series of media reports speculating about a possible cyclone between May 23 and May 28, the IMD has firmly denied these claims.
Speaking to OTV, reliable sources within the IMD stated that there is no current system in the Bay of Bengal that indicates the development of a cyclone. While meteorological models are constantly monitored for any low-pressure formation, no conclusive data is available at this stage to suggest cyclone formation within the said timeframe.
The IMD further cautioned media houses against spreading unverified information that may cause unnecessary panic among the public. The department reaffirmed that any updates on cyclonic activity will be shared through official bulletins in due course, if and when such developments occur.
The IMD has urged the public to rely on official channels and updates for accurate weather forecasts, instead of speculative reports making the rounds in the media.
As per information received by OTV from reliable IMD sources, Odisha is not under any cyclone warning currently, and no weather system indicating a cyclone has developed over the Bay of Bengal.
This clarification comes in the wake of rumours and speculative news reports suggesting the formation of a cyclone—reportedly to be named ‘Cyclone Shakti’—between May 23 and May 28 and it may head towards Odisha or West Bengal coast.
When such report was published in some national media, IMD officials clarified that as of now there is no forecast regarding cyclone over Odisha.
Bhubaneswar Met Centre Director has also stated that no information regarding a cyclone has been issued by IMD.
IMD has stated that as there are intense heat wave conditions, there is a possibility of thunderstorm activities in different parts of the state.
