No change in maximum day and night temperature for next 3 days; relief likely after May 6

No respite seems to be in sight from the excessive heat wave for the next three days in the state. After witnessing the hottest April, mercury in several parts of Odisha will continue to remain at around 40 degree Celsius and above, latest reports suggest.

It is likely that there will be no change in the maximum day and night temperature until May 6. However, the state will breathe a sigh of relief as the mercury level is expected to fall by 3-4 degree after May 6. 

The Coastal parts of Odisha are expected to get a break from the heat wave in the next two days, the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar informed.

Meanwhile, at least 29 towns in the state recorded temperature over 40 degree Celsius on Thursday with Bolangir recording the highest at 45 degree Celsius. There was a slight drop in temperature in the Twin Cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar due to the Nor’wester rain.

While Bhubaneswar recorded 39 degree Celsius, Cuttack saw a drop in temperature with mercury level soaring at 38.6 degree Celsius. 

On the other hand, for the first time since 1969, Bhubaneswar recorded temperature at 40 degree Celsius or above continuously for 17 days in the month of April.
