People across Odisha are waiting for the onset of monsoon ahead of the Raja festival. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday said the southwest monsoon is likely to touch the State in the next 2 to 3 days.
IMD senior scientist, RK Jenamani said the monsoon has advanced into some parts of Maharashtra, most parts of Karanataka, Andhra Pradesh and some areas in Bihar today.
“As per our forecast, we expect the southwest monsoon to touch some parts of Odisha by June 15 and June 16.”
As per IMD, the onditions are favorable for further advance of monsoon into some more parts of north Arabian sea, some more parts of Gujarat state, some parts of south Madhya Pradesh, entire Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, some parts Vidarbha and Telengana, some more parts of Andhra Pradesh, Westcentral & northwest Bay of Bengal during next 48 hours.
Conditions would continue to become favorable for further advance of monsoon into some more parts of Telengana, Andhra Pradesh, Bay of Bengal, some parts of Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharakhand, entire Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and some more parts of Bihar during subsequent 2 days.
According to Jena, there has been a rise in maximum temperature in some parts of the State with heat wave conditions in some districts yesterday. Due to lack of cloud cover, some districts will experience rise in maximum temperature.
“By June 16, monsoon clouds are expected to cover southern Odisha, West Bengal and some parts of Bihar and Jharkhand. We are closely monitoring the developments and accordingly forecast will be made,” Jenamani.
