Monsoon has arrived in Odisha, alleviating heatwave conditions with widespread rainfall. The Regional MeT Department issued a yellow warning for nine districts, forecasting rain, thunderstorms, and lightning. This rainfall is crucial for starting Kharif cultivation but varies significantly across districts.

In a major sigh of relief, Monsoon has finally covered Odisha with rainfall bringing cheers to people after the excess heatwave conditions in the state. Meanwhile, the Regional MeT department in Bhubaneswar has issued 'yellow warning' for rain in several districts.

The regional weather department has issued a yellow alert for rainfall for 9 districts- Khordha, Nayagarh, Boudh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Ganjam, Rayagada, Jharsuguda, and Sundergarh. The arrival of the Monsoon has come as a blessing for farmers who were waiting for the spells to start their Kharif cultivation.

The MeT department has forecast rainfall coupled with thunderstorms and lightning for two days. The rainfall is likely to increase from January 26, it was learnt.

Meanwhile, Odisha received 39 per cent less rainfall than normal between the period starting from June 1 to June 22. While the situation was severe in five districts, 17 districts received deficit rainfall. However, eight districts received normal rainfall.

YELLOW WARNING (BE UPDATED): Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar.
