Max temp to rise after 5 days; IMD issues fresh warnings for thunderstorm in Odisha

There will be no major change in the maximum temperature (day temperature) during the next five days in Odisha, informed the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday.

However, as per the IMD, a rise in the maximum temperature by 2 – 4 degree C can be expected during the subsequent two days over the districts of Odisha.

No deviation in maximum temperature can be mainly attributed to thunderstorm or Kalbaisakhi which is likely to continue in different parts of Odisha for the entire week, it said.

The IMD has also issued orange and yellow warning for thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph with heavy rainfall in some parts of Odisha during this period.

Orange Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda.

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangapur, Nuapada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Deogarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Bolangir.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 29.04.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 30.04.2025)

Orange Warning:  Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph and hailstorm, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Jajpur.

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph, heavy rainfall very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Angul, Dhenkanal.

Day 3(Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 30.04.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 01.05.2025)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph with heavy rainfall very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Nayagarh, Puri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Khordha.
