The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday issued a ‘red warning’ for isolated extremely heavy rainfall in two districts of Odisha in the next 24 hours. The alert has been issued for Balasore and Bhadrak and it will remain valid till 8:30 hours of August 17, 2024.
In view of the IMD’s red warning for extremely heavy rainfall, the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has directed the administrative officials to remain alert and keep machinery ready to face any eventuality.
As per IMD, the low pressure area persists over the Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of West Bengal and Bangladesh.
It is likely to move north-northwestwards during the next two days and become a well-marked low pressure area over Bangladesh and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal.
Thereafter, it is likely to move west-northwestwards, across Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand and adjoining areas during the subsequent three days.

Orange warning (Be Prepared): Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Deogarh, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Dhenkanal.
Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 17.08.2024to 0830 hrs IST of 18.08.2024)
Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak.
Yellow Warning (Be updated): Heavy Rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Bargarh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Boudh, Sonepur.
