Low pressure update: IMD predicts heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in Odisha districts till June 20

A low pressure area over Southwest Bangladesh and Gangetic West Bengal is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning to Odisha from June 17 to 20, with IMD issuing orange and yellow warnings for several districts.

A low pressure area has formed over the Southwest Bangladesh, and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal persists over the same region and is likely to move slowly west-northwestwards, the India Meteorological Department (IMD)  said on Tuesday.

The system is expected to become more marked over Gangetic West Bengal and neighbourhood during the next 24 hours, the weather office informed.

Weather Alert For Odisha

Under the influence of the system, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity with lightning is very likely to occur over the districts of Odisha from June 17 to 20. The IMD has also issued orange and yellow warnings for several districts of the state.

Weather Forecast For Next Four Days

Day 1 (Valid upto 0830 hrs IST of 18.06.2025)

Orange Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph and Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj, Jharsuguda.

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph and  Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Bargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack. 

Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Koraput.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 18.06.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 19.06.2025)

Orange Warning:

Heavy to Very Heavy rainfall with Extremely Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the district of Mayurbhanj.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur.

Yellow Warning

Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Angul, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 19.06.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 20.06.2025)

Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur.

Yellow Warning:

Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bargarh, Sonepur, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Angul, and Boudh.

Day 4 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 20.06.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 21.06.2025)

Yellow Warning:  Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh.
