Low pressure to trigger heavy rainfall in Odisha; check IMD’s district-wise warnings till June 1

A low pressure over Bay of Bengal is set to cause heavy rainfall in Odisha, says IMD. Orange and yellow warnings issued for various districts till June 1.

With the formation of a low pressure area, several parts of Odisha are set to experience enhanced rainfall activities.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday informed that under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over Northwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal, a low pressure area has formed over Northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast today.

It is likely to move slowly northwards and become more marked during the next 48 hours, IMD said.

As per the IMD, several parts of Odisha are likely to experience thunderstorm and heavy rainfall activities. Besides, orange and yellow warnings have been issued for several districts of the state.

Orange Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph and heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Jajpur.

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph and heavy rainfall is very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Balasore,Bhadrak, Khordha, Puri, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Nuapada, Bargarh, Nabarangapur, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Boudh, Sonepur.

Orange Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph and heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Cuttack, Koraput, Rayagada.

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph and heavy rainfall is very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Nabarangapur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Khordha, Nayagarh, Dhenkanal,Jajpur, Kendrapada, Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar.

Orange Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph and heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada.
