Amidst the searing heatwave conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday said that a cyclonic circulation is likely to form over the South Andaman sea and neighbourhood around May 4.
Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over the same region during the next 24 hours.
As per IMD, the system is likely to become more marked during the subsequent 24 hours.
"As per the latest model projection, a cyclonic circulation system will develop in Andaman Sea around May 4. It will be followed by low pressure by May 5. The system is likely to further intensify. All these changes likely to cause a drop in temperature," said RK Jenamani, senior scientist, IMD
The IMD further said that widespread rainfall likely to occur over Andaman and Nicobar Islands with isolated heavy rainfall over Nicobar Islands on May 4. Squally wind (speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph) is likely to prevail over South Andaman Sea on May 4. Fishermen are advised not to venture into South Andaman Sea and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal during the period.
According to Jenamani, the rising heat wave in Odisha and north India is due to westerly winds from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Rajasthan as temperature there hovers around 45 degrees.
As per the forecast, the heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in Odisha for another two days. The conditions will change by May 1, he added.
