“Only after further analysis of the system, we would be in a position to say whether it will further intensify into a cyclone or not,” said Roy.

According to Roy, the conditions are favourable for further intensification of the system. However, as there are dissimilarities between the models and forecasts, we will be in a position to say further after getting more clarity on the development.

“As there is divergence in models, we are not in a position to say anything about its movement or intensification. So far, we have predicted that the system will intensify into a depression over the central Bay of Bengal at this current stage,” Roy added.
