There is possibility of formation of a low pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Andaman Sea around middle of the second week in December, said India Meteorological Department (IMD).
As per IMD’s extended rainfall outlook for week two (December 1 to December 7, 2022), there is possibility of intensification of the system and northwest movement thereafter. The weather agency further said in its forecast that light to moderate rainfall activity is likely over southeast peninsular India due to easterly wave. The overall rainfall activity is likely to be below normal over the country during the week.
Minimum Temperature for week 2 (December 1 to 7)
Minimum temperatures are likely to be slightly below normal by 1-2⁰C over most parts of the country except East India, where these are likely to be below normal by 2-4⁰C during the week. No significant cold wave likely over any part of the country during the week.
Meanwhile, several parts of Odisha are experiencing cold conditions owing to considerable drop in minimum (night temperature). As per IMD’s Regional Centre in Bhubaneswar, Semiliguda in Koraput district recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 5.6 degrees on Sunday night.
Apart from SemIIliguda, G.udaygiri in Kandhamal recorded minimum temperature of 8 degrees and Keonjhar recorded 9.5 degrees. The twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar recorded minimum temperature of 15 and 14 degrees, respectively.
