The low pressure area formed over northeast and adjoining areas of eastcentral Bay of Bengal, Bangladesh-Myanmar coasts has intensified into depression on Friday morning, adding to the woes of people already reeling under flood.
As per IMD’s Regional Centre in Bhubaneswar, the system is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a deep depression during the next six hours.

With the latest development, the flood situation in Odisha is likely to be more serious.
The weathermen have issued red warning (Take Action) to two districts-Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar. During the next 24 hours starting 8.30 am, August 19, while a few places in these two districts will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, one or two places will witness extremely heavy rainfall.
Similarly, for the same period, orange warning (Be Prepared) has been issued to Kendrapara Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Bolangir, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Balasore. ON or two places of these districts are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Likewise, for the same period, the IMD has issued yellow warning (Be Updated ) to Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khurda and Puri districts as one or two places of these districts are likely to witness heavy rainfall.
Similarly for the period starting from 8.30 am of August 20 to 8.30 am of August 21, orange warning has been issued to Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur and Bolangir districts as very to heavy rainfall is likely to lash one or two places of these districts. And, for the same period, yellow warning has been issued to Mayurbhanj, Angul, Boudh, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Nawarangpur and Dhenkanal districts as one or two places of these districts are likely to experience heavy rainfall.
Besides Odisha, the other states to be affected under the impact of the deep depression are West Bengal, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.
The deep depression is likely to weaken on August 21 after reaching Chhattisgarh.
