Low pressure forms over BoB; another low pressure around July 19; IMD predicts heavy rainfall in Odisha

A low-pressure area has formed over the Bay of Bengal, prompting IMD to predict heavy rainfall in Odisha. Another low-pressure system is expected around July 19. Fishermen are advised against venturing into the sea due to squally weather conditions.

A Low Pressure area has formed over Northwest adjoining West central Bay of Bengal off south Odisha coast and extends upto 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting south-westwards with height.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday informed that a fresh low pressure area is likely to form over west central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal around July 19.

Under the influence of the above mentioned low pressure area, squally weather with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40 to 50 kmph is very likely over northwest adjoining west central Bay of Bengal off south Odisha coast during July 15 to July 16, 2024.

The IMD has warned fishermen not to venture into sea area off south Odisha coast, northwest adjoining west central Bay of Bengal area during the same period.

Yellow Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur and Rayagada.

Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati and Bolangir.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hours IST of 17.7.2024 to 0830 hours IST of 18.7.2024)

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) is very likely to occur to one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nayagarh, Malkangiri and Koraput.

Day 4 (Valid from 0830 hours IST of 18.7.2024 to 0830 hours IST of 19.7. 2024)

Yellow Warning: Heavy Rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at occur over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Nuapada and Bolangir.
