As predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a low-pressure area has formed over the south Andaman Sea on Monday. The low pressure area has formed under the influence of cyclonic circulation over the south Andaman Sea and adjoining equatorial Indian ocean Strait of Malacca.
The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to mid-tropospheric levels.
As per IMD, the low pressure area is likely to move west-northwest and concentrate into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal by December 6 evening.
“Thereafter, it is likely to continue to move west-northwest wards and intensify further gradually into a cyclonic storm and reach southwest Bay of Bengal near north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts by December 8 morning,” said IMD.

The IMD further informed that a feeble western disturbance is likely to affect Western Himalayan Region from December 7.
Under its influence, isolated light to moderate rainfall likely over Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh on December 8.
