The low-pressure system, which has developed in the eastern Central Arabian Sea, is poised to intensify into a depression within the next 36 hours, according to meteorological predictions. This weather system is expected to chart a northward path as it deepens into a depression.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the system is likely to move northwards, with potential strengthening in the coming days. The weather department stated that the low-pressure area is likely to develop further into a depression within the subsequent 36 hours.

Changing Weather Patterns

As the depression evolves, several regions are experiencing a shift in weather due to the influence of Nor'wester (Kalbaisakhi). This has resulted in rainfall activities across various parts, offering some respite from the typically intense heat prevalent this time of year. The local Met Office has described this weather pattern as bringing slight relief from the heat.

Imminent Monsoon Arrival

In related developments, the Meteorological Department has predicted the arrival of the Southwest Monsoon in Kerala within the next couple of days. This marks the beginning of a crucial period for Indian agriculture, as the monsoon is vital for watering crops. The monsoon is also forecast to advance towards Odisha shortly thereafter, bringing further rainfall to the region.

Change In Temperature

As far as Odisha is concerned, the IMD has clearly stated that there would be no large change in the maximum temperature (day temperature) for the next 6-7 days and a fall thereafter over the districts of Odisha.

The maximum temperature (day temperature) is very likely to be the same or above 40°C in the isolated pockets in the districts of Sambalpur, Bolangir, and Sonepur.

The IMD has also predicted thunderstorm activities with lightning and gusty winds in several parts of Odisha till May 26, 2025. With these developments, citizens are advised to stay updated on weather advisories and take necessary precautions as the situation unfolds.
