Heavy Kalbaisakhi rain hit Cuttack, Bhubaneswar as IMD predicted thunderstorms in Odisha. Orange warning issued for multiple districts with gusty winds and hail.

As predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), several parts of Odisha including the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar experienced heavy rainfall triggered by thunderstorm activities on Tuesday.

Earlier today, the IMD had issued a warning for the districts of Jagatsinghpur, Khordha, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Ganjam, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Angul.

There is also a forecast of heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhargarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Angul, Nayagarh, Gajapati, Ganjam, and Koraput. The alert will remain valid till tomorrow morning.

The IMD has also issued an orange warning citing that thunderstorms and lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph and hailstorm is very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at a few places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Angul, Nayagarh, Gajapati, Ganjam, Koraput during the same period.

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Nabarangapur, Balasore.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 17.04.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 18.04.2025)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two over the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Nabarangapur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore.

Day 4 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 18.04.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 19.04.2025)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at Mayurbhanj, Keonjhargarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangapur, Kalahandi.
