IMD’s red alert for heavy rainfall: All schools to remain closed in Mayurbhanj on September 14

Earlier the IMD had issued a red alert for Isolated heavy to very heavy falls (7 to 20cm) with isolated extremely heavy rainfall (>20cm) and thunderstorms with lightning very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Mayurbhanj.

In view of the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) forecast for heavy rainfall, the Mayurbhanj Collector on Friday announced the closure of schools in the district tomorrow (September 14, 2024).

In a message by the district education officer (DEO), all the schools including private will remain closed on September 14.

“As instructed by Collector and District Magistrate, Mayurbhanj, all type of schools including private will be closed i.e on 14.9.2024 in the district due to anticipation of heavy rainfall and alert warning,” the DEO’s message read.

As per IMD, there could be flash flood/water logging in low-lying areas, inundation of agriculture fields and mudslides/landslides in vulnerable hilly areas in view of the heavy rainfall forecast.

Apart from this, there could be a possibility of some damage to informal/Kutcha road, and wall collapse of vulnerable kutcha houses. Similarly, heavy rainfall might cause water logging in underpass roads and traffic congestion in urban areas.
