The India Metrological Department (IMD) on Saturday issued a 'yellow warning' for thunderstorm with lightning in several parts of Odisha. As per the latest weather forecast, light to moderate rain/thundershower with lightning is likely to affect some parts of the districts of Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Cuttack and Khordha.

The IMD has issued a yellow warning for these districts and the alert will remain valid for next three hours. People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly, move to safer places to stay protected from lightning strike, the IMD said in a release.

On Friday, a low pressure was formed over north Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh and West Bengal under the influence of upper air circulation.

Meanwhile, the IMD Bhubaneswar had predicted a dry spell in the state during Dusshera. “The weather is likely to be dry in Odisha. One or two places may experience light to moderate rain,” said Manorama Mohanty, director, IMD, Bhubaneswar.

Earlier, the IMD had ruled out any intensification of the fresh low pressure into depression or cyclonic storm.
