Odisha sizzles owing to heat wave conditions; IMD issues orange warning for several districts

No respite seems to be on the cards as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued an orange warning for severe heat wave conditions in Odisha.

After experiencing cool weather conditions following regular thunderstorm activities, several parts of Odisha are now experiencing a spike in maximum or day temperature, affecting normal lives across the state.

No respite seems to be on the cards as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued an orange warning for severe heat wave conditions in Odisha.

The mercury crossed 45 degree Celsius in Jharsuguda on Wednesday, while the temperature remained above 44°C in more than seven cities.

Earlier yesterday, Jharsuguda recorded its highest-ever temperature for the month of April, breaking a long-standing record. Since temperature recording began in 1953, the previous highest April temperature was 46.1°C, recorded on April 19, 2010. However on Tuesday, the record surpassed with the mercury touching 46.2°C, marking a new all-time high for the month. Worth mentioning that as many as 15 places in Odisha recorded temperature of 40 degree Celsius or above on Tuesday.

Yellow Warning: Heat wave condition is  very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Nuapada, Bargarh, Kalahandi, Sonepur.  Hot and Humid Conditions very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 23.04.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 24.04.2025)

Orange Warning: Severe Heat wave condition is very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda. 2) Heat wave condition very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Boudh, Bolangir, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Kalahandi, Sonepur. 

Yellow Warning:  Heat wave condition very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Angul, Nupada,Deogarh.

Orange Warning: Severe Heat wave condition is very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda. Heat wave condition very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Boudh, Bolangir, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Kalahandi, Sonepur. 

Yellow Warning:  Heat wave condition very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Angul, Nupada,Deogarh.
