IMD issues Nor’wester alert in Odisha 

Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind with speed reaching up to 30-40 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Khorda, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada and Koraput.

Heavy downpour

The regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued a Nor’wester rain warning to several districts of the state for four to five days. 

Briefing about the weather outlook, IMD Bhubaneswar Director, H R Biswas said, “There are chances of rainfall coupled with thunderstorms in the coming four to five days. In the next 24 hours, the possibility of thunderstorm and lightning activities is more in districts like Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Khorda, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam Rayagada and Koraput. In the rest of districts, there are also chances of rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning activity.”
