The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy rainfall across several districts in Odisha, warning that the wet spell could continue until May 2.
According to the latest bulletin, isolated heavy showers are expected on April 29 in districts including Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Angul, and Dhenkanal. Some of these areas may also experience hailstorms, prompting the IMD to issue an Orange warning.
The weather agency further stated that on April 30, heavy rain may impact districts like Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Nayagarh, Puri, Gajapati, Ganjam, and Khurda.
Moving into May, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Balasore, and Bhadrak districts are likely to be affected by heavy rainfall on May 1.
On May 2, the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, and Nabarangpur are forecasted to receive heavy rain at one or two locations.
Thunderstorms Between April 29 to May 4
In addition to these warnings, the IMD has mentioned that several other districts across Odisha could experience rain or thunderstorms between April 29 and May 4.
Meanwhile, over the past 24 hours, showers were recorded in parts of Rayagada, Nuapada, Balangir, Bargarh, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, and Sambalpur districts.
The IMD also indicated that there would be no significant fluctuation in maximum temperatures across Odisha over the next five days. However, a slight rise of 2 to 4 degrees Celsius could occur thereafter.
