Under the influence of a low-pressure system, several parts of southern and interior Odisha are likely to witness rainfall till August 24, the Regional Meteorological Centre predicted on Wednesday.
A yellow warning for heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning has been issued for 11 districts for today: Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.
The weather office has also issued a yellow warning for six districts tomorrow, cautioning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in some areas.
Authorities have advised residents of the affected districts to remain alert, avoid exposure during thunderstorms, and take necessary precautions.
Meanwhile, landslides, submergence of roads and bridges, and uprooting of trees were reported from the southern districts of Malkangiri, Koraput and Nabarangpur.
The IMD said the sea condition is very likely to be rough along the Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal coast during the period, advising fishermen not to venture out.
