The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted intense rainfall across Odisha till July 16, with the state likely to experience widespread showers over the next few days. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, more than half of Odisha is expected to witness significant rainfall activity, accompanied by gusty winds.

In view of the heavy rainfall prediction, the IMD has issued Yellow Alerts for multiple districts, urging residents and local administrations to stay prepared for possible waterlogging, low visibility, and minor disruption to daily life.

Yellow Alert for 24 Districts Today

For today (July 13) and tomorrow (July 14), the weather office has sounded a Yellow Alert for 24 districts in coastal, northern, and western Odisha. These districts are expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall measuring between 7 to 11 cm, with wind speeds likely reaching 30 to 40 kmph.

The districts under alert include Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar, where the possibility of very heavy rainfall has also been flagged.

Alert for 22 Districts Tomorrow and 16th July

The IMD further stated that 22 districts will remain under Yellow Alert on July 14 and 16, with conditions remaining favorable for continued rainfall activity. Certain areas in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh districts are particularly likely to receive extremely heavy downpours during this period.

Rainfall Intensity to Reduce Post 17th July

The weather system is expected to gradually weaken after July 17, leading to a decrease in rainfall activity across most parts of the state. However, sporadic rainfall may still continue in some districts of southern and northern Odisha, the IMD added.

Residents are advised to take necessary precautions, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Fishermen have also been warned against venturing into the sea during this period due to the likelihood of strong winds. The state administration is reportedly on alert to tackle any potential emergencies arising from the heavy rains.
