Residents of Western Odisha are sweltering as temperatures soar above 35°C in 22 cities, marking an intense heatwave.
Boudh Tops the List
The city of Boudh has recorded the highest temperature, reaching a blistering 39.5°C. Not far behind, Jharsuguda experienced temperatures of 38.6°C, while Bolangir faced 38.5°C.
Rising Mercury Across the Region
Sambalpur reported a temperature of 38.3°C, followed by Titlagarh at 37.5°C. Hirakud, Sundargarh, and Paralakhemundi each noted similar temperatures of 37.2°C. Meanwhile, in Bhubaneswar, the state's capital, temperatures peaked at 35.4°C, just slightly ahead of Cuttack, where it reached 35°C.
Impact on Urban Centres
The state capital, Bhubaneswar, was not spared, with mercury rising to 35.4 degrees. Cuttack also experienced similar soaring temperatures at 35 degrees Celsius.
Localities are advised to stay hydrated and remain indoors during peak hours of the day to avoid heat-related illnesses. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to provide any necessary support.
IMD on Heat Wave
IMD predicts severe heat wave in Odisha from March 13-15, with temperatures likely reaching 40°C. A 2-4°C temperature surge across western and interior regions is expected due to dry northwesterly winds. A yellow warning has also been issued for several districts.
