As many as 12 places in Odisha recorded temperature of 38 degree Celsius and above on Tuesday, said the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar.

According to the met officer, Angul emerged hottest with the mercury reaching up to a maximum of 39.7 degree Celsius followed by Sonepur (39.5), Baripada (39.2) and Boudh (39).

The Twin City of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded a maximum temperature of 38.1 and 38 degree Celsius respectively, the weather office informed.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday predicted a rise in maximum (day) temperature in several parts of Odisha in the next 24 hours. An alert for heat wave conditions has also been sounded for several districts.

As per IMD, the maximum temperature is likely to rise around 3 to 4 degrees during the next two to three days. As per the forecast, the maximum temperature will be above 3 to 5 degrees above normal at one or two places in the State during March 16 to 18.
