After witnessing intense cold wave conditions, people in Odisha are now likely to experience a sudden rise in the day temperature in the month of February.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that several parts of Odisha will witness above-normal maximum (day) temperature.
IMD Bhubaneswar scientist, Uma Shankar Dash on Monday informed that the probability of above normal temperature in the month of February is likely in south-coastal districts of the state. However, the only respite is that there will be no heat wave-like conditions in February.
“Usually the maximum day temperature in the month of February in Odisha is within the range of 31- 32 degrees Celsius. It is predicted that the day temperature this time will be above normal within 34 to 35 degrees in February,” said Dash.
In its monthly outlook for rainfall and temperature during February 2023, the IMD has predicted below-normal rainfall in most parts of northeast, east, and east central India and many parts of northwest India.
“Monthly maximum temperatures for February 2023 are likely to be below-normal over most parts of peninsular and some parts of central India. Above-normal maximum temperatures are very likely in most parts of east and northeast India, east-central India, and some parts of northwest and west central India,” IMD’s weather outlook said.
Weather expert, Sarat Sahu said, “Several factors are responsible for the temperature to breach normal status. Since October, the state witnessed less rainfall for which the land and soil are mostly dry. Similarly, rapid urbanization is also another factor to be blamed.”
