The Regional Meteorological Centre on Sunday predicted the formation of a fresh low-pressure area over the northwest adjoining the west-central Bay of Bengal by Monday.

Under its influence, rainfall activity across Odisha is likely to intensify, raising concerns of waterlogging and flood-like situations in some districts.

According to officials, several parts of the state have already started receiving showers, and the intensity of rain will increase further in the next 48 hours. The Met Office has issued a Yellow Alert for 24 districts today, forecasting rainfall in the range of 7 to 11 centimeters.

For Monday, an Orange Alert has been sounded for Koraput and Malkangiri, where very heavy rainfall is expected. Similarly, on August 19, Koraput and Kalahandi districts will remain under Orange Warning, while other regions may continue to receive heavy showers.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea from August 18 to 20, as sea conditions are likely to remain rough and unsafe. Authorities have urged people in the vulnerable districts to remain cautious, as continuous downpour may disrupt normal life, particularly in low-lying areas.
