Yesterday’s Depression over Southwest Bay of Bengal now lies over south Sri Lanka and lay centered about 90 km southwest of Batticaloa (Sri Lanka) and 120 km north of Hambantota (Sri Lanka) on Thursday.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday said that it is very likely to continue to move southwestwards across south Sri Lanka and emerge into Comorin and adjoining Gulf of Mannar off west coast of Sri Lanka by early morning on February 3.
“Light/moderate rainfall is very likely at many places over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and Kerala with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over south Tamil Nadu and isolated heavy rainfall over Kerala on February 2,” said IMD.

Along & off Sri Lanka coast: Squally wind with speed reaching 40-50 kmph and gusting up to 60 kmph on February 2.
Gulf of Mannar and Comorin area and along & off south Tamil Nadu & Karaikal coasts: Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph and gusting up to 60 kmph on 2nd February and becoming squally with wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph and gusting up to 50 kmph on February 3.
Along & off north Tamil Nadu & Puducherry coasts: Strong wind with speed reaching up to 30-40 kmph and gusting up to 50 kmph on 2nd February.
