A couple of days after rain lashed different parts of the state causing water-logging at several places, the day temperature in Odisha is likely to rise by 8-10 degree Celsius in the next three days, predicted the Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, on Thursday.
While the rainfall activities have considerably brought down the temperature, providing much-needed respite from the hot conditions, the temperature is likely to reach 40 degree Celsius by the end of March, as per the MeT reports.
Parts of Western Odisha are expected to record the highest temperature in the State in the next few days. Boudh and Titlagarh are expected to record the highest temperature.
Likewise, other districts like Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Bolangir, Rayagada and Malkangiri may witness a temperature of 38-39 degree Celsius or more, said the weather department.
Similarly, there may be a rise in the night temperature by 3-5 degree Celsius in the subsequent 4 to 5 days at most places over the districts of Odisha, said the Regional MeT centre.
On the other hand, the maximum day temperature in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack on Wednesday fell to record lows for the month of March due to the heavy rainfall. According to IMD, the previous lowest maximum day temperature was 24.3 degree Celsius, recorded on March 6, 1970.
However, the maximum temperature of March 20, 2024 surpassed that record and became the lowest reading on the scale since the year 1952.
Similarly, Cuttack had recorded the lowest maximum day temperature of 23.6 degree Celsius on March 6, 1970. On Wednesday (March 20, 2024), the temperature dropped to 20 degree Celsius.
