Cyclonic circulation and easterly wave activity to trigger heavy rain in several states

Under the influence of easterly wave activity, scattered to fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning is likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal on March 10th-11th and Lakshadweep on March 11th and 12th.

A fresh Western Disturbance is now seen as a cyclonic circulation over Iraq in lower to upper tropospheric levels. It is likely to move gradually eastwards and impact States of Western Himalayan region during the next 10-12th March, informed the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday.

As per IMD, a cyclonic circulation lies over Northeast Bangladesh in lower tropospheric levels. Under its influence, isolated to light/moderate rainfall/snowfall is likely to occur over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland on March 9. It is likely to increase to scattered to fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall/snowfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during March 11-15th.

Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Arunachal Pradesh during 11th-13th March as well, informed IMD.

Easterly Wave Activity

Under the influence of easterly wave activity, scattered to fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning is likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal on March 10th-11th and Lakshadweep on March 11th and 12th.

Isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning is also likely over Kerala, coastal and South Interior Karnataka during 11th-13th March.

Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall likely over south Tamil Nadu on 11th and heavy rainfall over Kerala and Mahe on 11th & 12th March, the IMD said.
