The possible formation of a cyclone has left people worried in Odisha and the neighbouring Andhra Pradesh. Even though the exact path and intensity of the probable cyclone is yet to ascertained, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) is closely monitoring the developments over the Bay of Bengal.
As per IMD, the low pressure system is likely to move west -northwestwards and concentrate into a Depression by tomorrow (December 2) and further intensify into a cyclonic storm over Central Bay of Bengal during the subsequent 24 hours.
It likely to move northwestwards, intensify further and reach near north Andhra Pradesh-Odisha coasts by the morning of December 4.
The IMD has already issued a Red Warning (heavy to very heavy rainfall) for several districts in Odisha which will start experiencing rainfall activities from December 3 night. The rainfall activities will continue in the State till December 5.
Wind Warning:
-Under the influence of above system, squally wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph is likely to prevail over southeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal, on December 2.
-Gale winds, speed reaching 65-75 kmph gusting to 85 kmph, is likely to prevail over central Bay of Bengal from the early morning of December 3 and gradually increase becoming 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph over northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal from the morning of December 4 for the subsequent 24 hours.
-Squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph likely to commence along and off North Andhra Pradesh – Odisha coasts from the mid-night of December 3 and increase gradually becoming 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph from December 4 morning, for the subsequent 12 hours.
