The low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Andaman Sea on Thursday became well marked and it is likely to move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a depression over southeast Bay during the next 12 hours.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday said that after the formation of a Depression, the system will intensify into a ‘Cyclonic Storm’ over Central Bay of Bengal during the subsequent 24 hours.
It likely to move northwestwards, intensify further and reach near north Andhra Pradesh-Odisha coasts by the morning of December 4. IMD’s Regional Centre in Bhubaneswar said that only after the formation of Depression, the exact path and its landfall can be ascertained with pin-point accuracy.
Umashankar Das, weather expert of the Regional Met Centre has predicted that the wind speed is likely to increase gradually in Odisha after December 3.
Wind speed is likely to reach 90 kmph, gusting upto 110 kmph by December 4. Several parts of the State, especially the coastal districts will start experiencing rainfall activities from December 3.
Heavy rainfall alert has been sounded for the districts of in Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khordha, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Rayagada and Koraput under influence of the cyclonic system, said Das.
